Architecture
The solution is built on IBM Cognos PowerHouse and IBM Cognos Axiant thin-client technology. The application runs on Unix and Windows servers and uses the Oracle RDBMS to house the data.Most customers use a centralized hosting of the application, and some installations include over 2000 users across North America accessing the system. Since most of the data is stored in a transaction-orientated database schema, VantagePoint provides the necessary summary tables for sales and production reporting.
The application provides a comprehensive IBM Cognos Impromptu® catalogue for general reporting requirements, along with a suite of subject-matter catalogues for areas such as inventory, sales, and production analysis. Pre-built IBM Cognos PowerPlay cubes are also available to provide further analysis of the business. Since a typical corrugated producer will often have 25,000 or more products and over 2,000 customer references, software such as PowerPlay makes it easy for VantagePoint users to quickly analyze the business.
