The IBM Cognos 8 Special Edition

The IBM Cognos 8 Special Edition is an all-in-one BI solution that embeds three key proven IBM® middleware technologies, including a Web server, application server, and a database server, with Cognos® software for complete business intelligence functionality.

The IBM Cognos 8 Special Edition comes with an embedded version of:

  • IBM WebSphere as its Application Server
  • IBM HTTP Server as its Web Server
  • DB2 UDB as its content store

With the complete turn-key solution offered by the IBM Cognos 8 Special Edition companies can now leverage a Corporate Performance Management solution that leverages existing applications, data, and hardware while remaining truly scalable. With this offering IT can easily install, test, and deploy enterprise reporting, analysis, dashboards, scorecards, planning, and business event management with confidence, knowing it will integrate quickly and cohesively with their infrastructure. The Cognos 8 Special Edition has been fully tested and is fully supported by Cognos, which eliminates risk and helps reduce costs associated with BI deployment.

Based on open standards, such as SQL, JAVA, XML, SOAP, and WSDL, and built to leverage existing enterprise infrastructure investments including relational databases and Web application servers, the IBM Cognos 8 Special Edition satisfies our customer’s internal application needs and fulfills requirements for Web enablement and as a BI content store.

This integrated technology allows Cognos, an IBM company, to offer an optimized and uniquely integrated infrastructure - significantly lowering the cost and time to create high performance business intelligence solutions. The entire solution operates on a variety of different platforms including Microsoft Windows, Red Hat Linux® on pSeries®, Intel x86 (including IBM’s xSeries), and UNIX (AIX®, HP-UX®, SOLARIS®).
