IBM DB2 Cube Views
IBM DB2 Cube Views adds dimensional awareness to IBM DB2, creating a unique dimensional platform that allows business intelligence solutions and applications to connect easier, deploy faster, and perform better. Combining IBM DB2 UDB with IBM DB2 Cube Views uniquely integrates data structures, allowing BI to present a holistic, integrated view via an open and easy-to-use metadata bridge. The database uses this metadata to create performance enhancing materialized query tables (MQTs) for all BI solutions to access the database. When paired with Cognos, this solution:
- Improves reporting and analysis performance, creating enterprise-wide user acceptance and easier large scale deployments.
- Creates a seamless and centralized business intelligence platform, providing an end-to-end architecture.
With this new shared metadata capability between IBM DB2 and IBM Cognos 8 BI, IBM DB2 is then able to create materialized Query Tables (MQT) and SuperMQTs, which provide extremely fast response times for user queries. The IBM DB2 optimizer automatically determines when to use these MQTs, thus freeing the report author from concerns about maximizing query performance.
Cognos provides a native one-way metadata bridge to IBM DB2 Cube Views that populates the Cognos 8 metadata layer. CIBM ognos 8 BI SQL takes advantage of query re-routing performed by the optimizer by hitting MQTs instead of the base tables. This most often results in significant improvement in the performance and speed of queries. A bi-directional bridge from Cognos to IBM DB2 Cube Views is also available from MITI, a partner with Cognos, an IBM company, and IBM.
