BI Radio – Help with listening
Ways to listen
- Listen Now
"Listen now" lets you listen to your chosen episode via your Web browser. For this to happen you'll need a browser plug-in that can play MP3 files, such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime, iTunes, Real Player, or Winamp. You'll also need to be online. When you click "Listen now," a page with the embedded player of your choice will appear in new small window. The audio should start automatically.
- Download
Downloading lets you save episodes to your computer. Once you've downloaded the file you can listen to it whenever you want, either at your desk or via a portable MP3 player. To download a file, right-click on the "Download" link, and click on either "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As...". From here, simply choose the location on your compter where you wish to store the file. The download will begin automatically.
- Subscribe to podcast
Podcasting lets you automatically receive the latest episode of your chosen program as soon as it's available. To sign up for a podcast you'll need an internet connection and podcast software, which is usually free. This software can check the Cognos Web site for new episodes and automatically download them for you.
Read below for more how to subscribe to a podcast.
How to subscribe to podcasts:
There are three steps involved in setting up your computer to receive podcasts.
- Download and install podcast software
You'll need to install a podcasting application that will search the Web for new episodes and automatically deliver them to your computer. This software is usually free. Popular choices include:NOTE: Cognos is not responsible for the content of external Web sites
- Subscribe to podcasts
Most podcast software lets you subscribe to podcasts using a podcast "feed." This "feed" is the podcast's Web address and will be checked automatically by your podcast software. You can find the feed for any Cognos Radio podcast by clicking on either the orange XML button, or the Podcast button. In both cases the feed address will appear in the address bar of your Web browser. The feed will start with "http://www.cognos.com/radio-cognos/..."
You will need to copy this feed address and paste it into your podcast software. How you do this will depend on your software, but you should look out for buttons or links that say "Add podcast" or "Subscribe to podcast."
- Listen to the audio
When a new episode becomes available for the podcast you have subscribed to, your software will automatically download it. For audio, you can then listen to this episode on your computer or transfer it to your portable player to listen to later. You may want to check the settings of your podcast software for details including how often it will check for new episodes, whether it will keep old episodes, and so on. This will vary depending on the software you have chosen and your personal preferences.
If you decide that you no longer want to receive podcast episodes, it should be very easy to unsubscribe. Again, how you do this will depend on your software, but you should look for "Clear" or "Unsubscribe" options.
