Migrating Applications with Axiant 4GL

2-day course with workshops

This client/server course uses a combination of presentations, demonstrations, and workshops to show you how to use Axiant 4GL to migrate your PowerHouse 4GL from one environment to another with an emphasis on migrating an IMAGE-based application from an MPE environment to a UNIX environment. You will learn how to migrate data structures, programs and OS command language scripts. Emphasis is on (a) using automatic migration tools within Axiant, and (b) learning the aspects of your MPE application that require modifications to work in the UNIX/relational environment.

Recommended Students

The course is suitable for those project managers, analysts and programmers planning a migration of an existing PowerHouse 4GL application to a UNIX environment. Some discussion will be given to migrating to a windows environment as well.

Axiant 4GL - Building Applications

3-day course with workshops

This course provides the Axiant knowledge and skills you need to create new applications and to move existing applications into the windows-based PowerHouse development environment.

Through hands-on guided discoveries and workshops, you will begin by learning how to use the Axiant 4GL development environment, and will then move on to the steps required to migrate your existing applications into Axiant. During the course you will migrate an indexed file system to a relational database, move the data into the new database, and migrate the application that accesses this data. Once the application has been migrated, you will learn how to maximize the graphical user interface and integrate the application with the users new environment.

The course is suitable for those designers and developers of PowerHouse 4GL applications who wish to migrate PowerHouse applications to Axiant.

• how to use Axiant 4GL as a development environment for PowerHouse applications.

• how the parts of your PowerHouse 4GL application move forward into Axiant 4GL.

• the steps you will need to follow in order to migrate a PowerHouse 4GL application into Axiant 4GL.

• how to migrate a server based application into a mobile application.

Prerequisites

• Working knowledge of the operating system, text editor, and file structures for the machine line on which the course is given. (Specifically, you are expected to be able to issue operating system commands and use the editor to modify PowerHouse code.)

• Working knowledge of PowerHouse 4GL.
