Statement of Intention regarding Rehabilitation Act, Section 508
According to the World Health Organization, more than 750 million people worldwide have a disability. Accessibility to electronic and information technology products is becoming increasingly important for everyone. Cognos supports the goal of making workplaces and technologies widely accessible. In conjunction with Assistive technologies, Cognos software brings business intelligence to users with disabilities.
Cognos is committed to supporting Section 508, and recognizes that government agencies must purchase the software solutions that are the 'most compliant'. We regularly review and address the accessibility of our software. This review process now includes guidelines arising from the US Federal Government amendments to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
In order to deliver the most compliant products, Cognos has partnered with industry consultants and 508-savvy Federal departments. Cognos products offer accessible solutions for Section 508 of the 1998 federal Rehabilitation Act.
To ensure continued compliance, we have also implemented formal development procedures. If product functionality is found to be incompatible with accessibility as defined within the Act, it will be evaluated and a reasonable effort will be made to resolve the finding. Such evaluation will be made within the context of overall product priorities, timing and cost.
Cognos is determined to have the most 508-compliant software solutions among leading enterprise software vendors. To this end, Cognos drives accessibility support across its entire product line, customer support, developer training, and consulting practices.
Cognos continues to make significant and ongoing investments in the usability and accessibility of its solutions, directly committing research and development resources, as well as funding external research in the area of usability.
In addition to a 508-compliant product offering, our Public Sector technical services teams are familiar with Section 508 guidelines and can provide assistance and best practices to help our customers deliver accessible applications to their users.
Through products, support, and services, we are confident in our ability to make Business Intelligence available to all users.
