Cognos Go! Search Service Integrates With IBM Enterprise Search Software
– Enables single solution to search across business intelligence and enterprise information, unlocking the value of all an organization’s content assets –
BURLINGTON, Mass., April 19, 2006—
Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), a world leader in business intelligence and
performance management solutions, today announced that Cognos Go! Search
Service will support IBM WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition.
The combined solution will enable users to discover and analyze information
on demand by searching business intelligence information managed by Cognos
8 Business Intelligence and other content stored across the enterprise.
Business intelligence is a critical component of an organization’s
knowledge assets, but is typically ignored by most enterprise search solutions.
Integrating Cognos Go! with IBM WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition
will provide a consolidated view of business intelligence data and all other
related content distributed across the organization. The new solution also
supports the open source Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA)
framework for the creation, development and deployment of technologies for
discovering the vital knowledge present in unstructured content, the fastest
growing source of information today. Cognos Go! will allow reports, analyses,
dashboards, metric information, and events to be published and indexed by IBM
WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, the IBM enterprise search
platform and the first commercially available software for processing content
based on UIMA.
“Combining powerful search capabilities with business intelligence
represents an important development in expanding the BI user base from dedicated
business analysts to a broader population of knowledge workers,” said
Henry Morris, group vice president and general manager at IDC. “Furthermore,
this is a significant step towards enabling unified access to structured and
unstructured information.”
IBM WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition provides secure search
results with sub-second response from enterprise content such as intranets,
extranets, corporate public Web sites, relational databases, file systems and
content repositories and has extensible capabilities for determining meaning
and relevance by leveraging UIMA. Now, anyone within an organization using
the IBM enterprise search software will be able to use simple keywords and
phrases to also search and find relevant Cognos 8 BI content in the search
results. This new capability will provide greater access to enterprise knowledge,
helping businesses better manage their growing deluge of information and extract
and analyze previously hidden facts and insight to uncover risks, identify
new opportunities and drive efficiencies.
“Today’s announcement represents the continued evolution of clients
getting more value from the information across the enterprise,” said
Jon Prial, vice president, Content Management and Discovery, IBM. “By
delivering relevant data enhanced by access to new types of information, Cognos
and IBM are delivering solutions to help customers find the right information
at the right time, no matter where it resides.”
“We are continuing to deliver innovation with IBM through our Global
Strategic Alliance,” said Neal Hill, senior vice president of corporate
development at Cognos. “Our joint customers will gain greater value from
their enterprise search investments by reaching the data and metrics available
through Cognos 8 BI, and have a holistic view of enterprise performance to
make better business decisions.”
Cognos Go! Search Service, available in May, works with Cognos 8 BI, a groundbreaking
product that provides decision makers at all levels of the enterprise with
a consistent, accurate view of information to better manage performance. As
a single product that easily integrates into existing infrastructures with
