Cognos Presented the CIPA Award of Excellence for Organizational Transformation
– 13th Annual CIPA Awards Honour Canadian Businesses for Innovative Technology Achievements that Help Increase
Productivity and Competitiveness –
Toronto, and Ottawa, Ontario, November 14, 2005 - The Canadian
Information Productivity Awards (CIPA) has announced that it has selected Cognos
(Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business
intelligence and corporate
performance management (CPM), as the recipient of the Silver Award of
Excellence for Organizational Transformation.
This award recognizes Cognos’ achievement in making significant and
ongoing productivity improvements within its Build Engineering operations.
The Cognos Build Engineering team delivers production builds and install kits
for all Cognos products and components, and designs, develops, tests and implements
build automation tools for use by all Cognos R&D teams. The team created
a sophisticated software build and configuration environment, in which the
same number of employees can perform more than 10 times the number of build
tasks per month. This new approach ensures highly effective process monitoring,
output reporting, operational monitoring, dependency tracking and developer
self-service. As a result, Cognos is able to reallocate its resources to spend
more time innovating in other areas such as product creation and delivery.
“Cognos is honoured to be recognized by CIPA for our research and development
productivity advancements,” said Mark Dawe, Manager, Build Engineering,
Cognos. “This award reflects our company’s ongoing commitment to
innovation in all aspects of our business, and the remarkable results we continue
to reap as a result of that innovation.”
The CIPA awards program recognizes excellence in innovation, and the ability
of Canadian organizations to change, adapt and compete on a global scale. Finalists
for the annual awards are selected from entries submitted by enterprises of
all sizes and types across Canada.
“Cognos is a bold leader in the Canadian business landscape” said
Norm Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of CIPA. “Implementation of these
productivity enhancements demonstrates excellent management skills in the strategic
use of information technology to improve productivity and service.”
The annual CIPA competition is a showcase for the implementation of best practices.
Winners become models for other Canadian organizations on how to adopt new
technologies and introduce advanced technologies faster, in order to generate
higher productivity, develop innovative products and services and foster increased
prosperity for all stakeholders within the organization, the industry and the
economy at large.
