Through a collaborative effort with EMC, FileNet, IBM and Savvion, Cognos 8 BI features a business process intelligence capability that enables customers to proactively monitor, invoke, and modify multiple historical and in-flight business processes leveraging relevant enterprise events using the software’s enhanced business event management functionality.

By receiving a more holistic view of business process information coupled with relevant enterprise intelligence data, users across the organization are able to make quicker and more informed decisions at the critical point in the process, thereby avoiding missed opportunities and increasing overall operational productivity. “Rather than simply automating business processes, forward-thinking organizations are beginning to realize that gaining deeper contextual intelligence about these processes can result in a clearer view of the overall health of a project, program or the corporation as a whole ,” said Patrick O’Leary, vice president of strategic alliances at Cognos. “ By integrating our market-leading enterprise performance management capabilities with the collective expertise of our key BPM partners, Cognos is delivering the first and only demonstrable process-aware BI solution that can provide decision-ready information at each step along the process.”

Through its Partner Readiness Program (PREP), Cognos collaborated on this initiative with some of the industry’s foremost BPM solution providers:

EMC (NYSE: EMC) is a world leader in delivering products, services and solutions for information storage and management. Its BPM product suite is specially tailored to manage loosely structured collaborative processes and highly-structured, high-volume transactional processes.

“EMC’s Business Process Management products offer global enterprises a streamlined approach to addressing the broad spectrum of processes they face on a daily basis,” said Balaji Yelamanchili, vice president and general manager of content management at EMC Software Group. “By embedding this capability with Cognos’ leading analytics and reporting functionality, EMC and Cognos are delivering a truly coordinated framework for optimizing business processes.”

FileNet is a leading provider of enterprise content and business process management solutions built on FileNet P8, a highly scalable platform that allows organizations to improve business performance by streamlining and automating business processes and accessing and managing information from anywhere across the enterprise.

“The ability to leverage Business Intelligence in support of Business Process Management has become a strategic priority for FileNet’s customers. With the launch of Cognos 8 BI, Cognos has effectively set a new standard for excellence in performance management, due in large part to the solution’s advanced services-oriented architecture and open data strategy,” said Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer at FileNet. “Cognos’ single, modern BI platform combined with FileNet P8’s BPM capabilities help organizations optimize their business by providing in process business intelligence data to knowledge workers that leverage BI’s analysis and monitoring capabilities to optimize and streamline business processes in real time. Together, these capabilities allow us to offer up-to-date business intelligence data when it matters most, during key decision points of the business process.”

IBM offers an integrated suite of process management solutions supported by a standards based service oriented infrastructure as part of its IBM WebSphere portfolio.

“Enabling our clients to manage their end-to-end business processes and drive transformation and best practices is crucial to helping them become ‘on demand’ businesses. This collaborative effort with Cognos is premised on taking business process management to the next level – granting our joint customers a single, integrated view, with real-time intelligence of both its business measurements and IT system performance,” said Inhi Suh, director of business innovation and optimization at IBM. “We are pleased to see Cognos embrace our WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation platform as part of its Cognos 8 BI launch, and look forward to continue working together to help organizations respond more quickly to market trends and competitive threats and improve operational efficiencies.”

Savvion solutions offer a true lifecycle approach to process management that enables businesses to move their process improvement initiatives on-line.

“Cognos’ strong analytics and reporting capabilities coupled with Savvion’s business process management expertise give customers the enhanced benefit of actionable business intelligence,” said Shawn Price, president and chief executive officer at Savvion. “Leveraging process performance with key enterprise-level information provides the critical holistic viewpoint organizations need to manage their businesses both at the strategic and operational levels.”
