only vendor in this category to experience both revenue and market share growth in the same year

BURLINGTON, MA, August 18, 2005 - Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management (CPM), continues to demonstrate growth in the Enterprise BI (EBIS) market, according to the latest worldwide Gartner Dataquest report on BI.*
Figures released by Gartner Dataquest show that Cognos’ 2004 EBIS license revenues grew 16.4%, the highest growth among all traditional standalone BI competitors**, and that Cognos was the only company in this category to hit double-digits. Moreover, Cognos was the only standalone BI vendor to experience both revenue and market share growth in the same year, registering 11.7% share in 2004, up from 11.3% in 2003.
Cognos’ growth was fueled by the strength of its comprehensive Enterprise BI offering. Featuring Cognos ReportNet™, a highly scalable, pure Web-based enterprise query and reporting environment built upon a services-oriented architecture, Cognos BI offers customers rich multi-dimensional analysis, visualization, dashboarding and a complete environment for ad hoc query, managed reporting, event management, and data integration. Combined with best-of-breed enterprise planning and metrics management capabilities, Cognos offers a complete platform for performance management.
“We feel these results reflect how organizations are increasingly turning to Cognos to spearhead their BI standardization agendas. We offer the deepest and broadest BI footprint in the industry, making Cognos the clear choice for helping global organizations reduce cost and complexity,” said Dave Laverty, senior vice president of global marketing at Cognos. “We believe this Gartner report confirms that the market continues to embrace our vision, our products and our commitment to delivering value for enterprise customers worldwide.”
