Leading Worldwide Organizations Standardizing on Cognos Business Intelligence Solutions
– Ticketmaster and Regent Medical among those standardizing on Cognos solutions to improve business performance, accelerate regulatory reporting –
BURLINGTON, MA, June 24, 2005— Global organizations, such as Ticketmaster, Regent Medical, and Ernex, are turning to
Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management (CPM), to standardize on a single, fully integrated BI solution that allows for a complete and consistent view of the business and enable higher levels of performance.
Cognos continues to expand its leadership position in BI. Cognos ReportNet™, which offers a complete, pure Web-based enterprise query and reporting environment, is fully integrated within the Cognos EBI Series, which offers customers rich multi-dimensional analysis and visualization, a complete environment for ad hoc and managed reporting, actionable automated event management, and data integration. Built upon a service-oriented architecture, Cognos ReportNet scales to hundreds and thousands of users, and has amassed millions in license revenue.
Among the many customers worldwide using Cognos as their business intelligence standard are:
- ServiceMaster, which provides outsourcing services for residential and commercial customers under leading brands, which include Terminix, TruGreen ChemLawn, TruGreen LandCare, ARS Service Express, Rescue Rooter, American Mechanical Services, ServiceMaster Clean, American Home Shield, AmeriSpec, Merry Maids, and Furniture Medic;
- Ticketmaster, the world’s leading ticketing company;
- Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry;
- Ernex, a division of Moneris Solutions Corporation, and a provider of innovative real-time marketing solutions including privately branded and multi-merchant loyalty programs, stored-value gift cards, reward fulfillment services and loyalty database hosting services;
- F-Secure Corporation, the fastest growing publicly listed antivirus and intrusion prevention vendor in the world;
- Regent Medical, a major healthcare supplies company; and
- Trillium Health Centre, one of Canada’s leading community hospitals.
An AMR Research poll reveals that 53% of the large companies surveyed have either completed or are in the early stages of standardization1. And for good reason: AMR Research concludes that over the next three years, companies will save between 20% and 40% of their enterprise performance management (EPM) operational costs through standardization2.
According to Gartner’s report, “Organizations Must Standardize and Consolidate BI Tools,” “At most companies, the problems of fragmentation and proliferation of disparate business intelligence (BI) tools have been exacerbated during the past two years.” The report projects that “Through 2008, companies resisting the need to consolidate BI tools will be unable to strategically deploy BI and will incur 50 percent more cost for each redundant tool.”
“Cognos has been the solution of choice at Regent Medical from the inception and throughout the evolution of our BI environment. Standardizing our reporting with Cognos allows Regent Medical to increase value, while reducing cost – delivering one version of the truth necessary for consistent and informed decision-making at all levels of our organization. It ensures that our users share the same skills and best-practice knowledge needed to create and consume sophisticated reports. It also means they know where data is and how to access it,” said Susan Dean, BI Manager at Regent Medical, a major healthcare supplies company.
“Our recent study on standardization revealed that over half of medium and large size companies surveyed have standardization projects under way. However, many are still in the early stages,” said Eric Rogge, VP and Research Director, Ventana Research. “Over 30% of the respondents that had standardization programs said that CEOs were key sponsors, indicating the strategic nature of business intelligence technology standardization.”
According to recent industry research, top-line concerns of IT executives consistently include application integration and the ability to provide “one version of the truth,”; unlocking the full value of ERP and CRM solutions; developing compliance and risk management solutions, and platform simplification. Eliminating the debate over numbers means users can take the best action based on trusted information. Standardization also simplifies the IT environment and delivers a single user experience – increasing user productivity.
“The reasons driving standardization are core to every company – cutting costs, reducing complexity, addressing regulatory requirements, achieving a single version of the truth, and increasing the time to value from BI,” said Karen Williams, vice president, product marketing, Cognos. “We have a history and reputation of leading the industry with our innovative solutions, including complete Web-based reporting and analysis, service-orientated architecture, first true visualization, and enhanced metadata capabilities. Offering the deepest and broadest BI footprint in the industry is key to any standards selection.”
Karen Williams, vice president, product marketing at Cognos, will lead a panel discussion on BI Standardization on Monday, June 27th at 3 p.m. at Cognos Forum. Leading global organizations will showcase how they are reducing the high costs of maintaining multiple BI solutions and how they are successfully eliminating islands of information and inefficiencies that result from a patchwork, decentralized approach to BI.
