Cognos Achieves Top Ranking in FTSE ISS Corporate Governance Index
– Achieves Fifth Spot Worldwide–
Ottawa, Ontario and Burlington, Massachusetts, April 19, 2005 - Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management (CPM) solutions, today announced it has achieved a top ranking score (5) in the FTSE ISS Corporate Governance Index (CGI). The FTSE ISS CGI Series, which ranks companies across geographic regions and industry sectors, was designed to provide asset managers with an instrument to help assess and manage the impact corporate governance practices may have on investment portfolios. Cognos ranked fifth among all companies worldwide.
Monitoring over 2,200 constituent companies from 24 developed markets, the joint rating system combines Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and FTSE Group’s respective expertise in corporate governance and indexing to provide this unique service. The joint series contains a group of six indexes and ratings data. The CGI ratings are based on five themes of corporate governance - compensation systems for executive and non-executive directors; executive and non-executive stock ownership; equity structure; structure and independence of the Board; and independence and integrity of the audit process.
“We are honored to be recognized as a world-wide leader in corporate governance,” said Rob Ashe, president and CEO, Cognos. “This Index represents the standard for measuring corporate governance globally, and Cognos’ consistent focus on corporate governance is reflected in this recognition for the company.”
