— Cognos and IBM develop new platform release to accelerate Linux adoption —

BURLINGTON, MA, November 8, 2004— Cognos (NASDAQ: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management, today announced that in conjunction with IBM's Linux on POWER initiative, it is offering Cognos ReportNetT on the Linux on pSeries platform - a key element of the IBM eServer Linux strategy.

Continuing a long-term relationship, the two companies worked closely together to develop and deliver Cognos ReportNet on Linux as part of a global multi-year agreement to drive business intelligence adoption on IBM Linux-based systems running Cognos solutions.

"We are pleased that Cognos has enabled ReportNet to Linux on POWER," said Gary Schneider, Director of Linux for IBM's DB2 Information Management division. "Business intelligence is a fast-growing market on Linux, and the availability of leading ISV applications combined with the price and performance advantages of Linux on POWER, gives customers even more options and should accelerate the adoption of Linux across the enterprise."

Cognos ReportNet offers a complete Web-based report and query authoring environment, extensive multi-lingual support, and modem Web Services architecture to meet the needs of today's multi-national, diversified enterprises and to dramatically reduce total cost of ownership. Designed to scale to hundreds of thousands of users, Cognos ReportNet draws upon Cognos query and reporting leadership, delivering a revolution in reporting. Linux provides extremely cost-effective support for that scalability by making it easy to add low-cost, high value performance and computing power to Cognos implementations.

"Linux is now a mainstream platform, and customers are increasingly looking for greater options. With this announcement, we are giving our customers an added choice in operating systems," said Jennifer Francis, Cognos vice president of business intelligence.
