Austrian Airlines Standardizes on Cognos Enterprise Business Intelligence for Performance Management

— Leading airline in the Austrian market leverages Cognos ReportNetT with SAP BW to streamline its time and cost management —

BURLINGTON, MA, November 3, 2004—The Austrian Airlines Group (AUA), the leading airline in the Austrian market, has standardized on an enterprise business intelligence (EBI) solution from Cognos (NASDAQ: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management. Key to the deployment's success has been Cognos ReportNetT's ability to easily interoperate with AUA's SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW).

Committed to dynamic development and focused on quality, AUA includes three airlines -Austrian, Lauda Air, and Austrian Arrows - which together comprise Austria's aviation market. AUA is a member of Star Alliance, the world's largest and most successful global airline partnership. In collaboration with its partners, AUA offers connections to more than 700 cities in more than 130 countries. To meet customer demands, AUA covers every segment of the civil aviation industry from regular and chartered passenger flights to cargo carriage.

Using Cognos has allowed AUA to streamline its time and cost management - saving time and money as a result, as well as providing optimal support for its staff. With Cognos, AUA can access critical information from the rich data housed in SAP BW as well as in its non-SAP systems, providing a single view of its business performance. AUA is now able to effectively link strategy, people, and performance through metrics, ensuring all employees are working toward corporate goals.

AUA has also established a BI Center of Competence, which will spearhead all BI projects throughout the various departments. Executives and managers will leverage the Cognos solution to track and measure key performance metrics, and develop and share critical business and operational reports.

"Standardizing on Cognos as a common BI solution has helped Austrian Airlines to lower the overall cost of ownership by reducing the number of BI solutions we need to manage and maintain," said Rainer Pichler, vice president IT Services, The Austrian Airlines Group. "Because of its solid integration with SAP, it provides us with better visibility and more consistent understanding of time and cost management. Undoubtedly, Cognos has unbeatable functionality over their competitors."

"Organizations like The Austrian Airlines Group are seeing the value and competitive advantage offered by standardizing on a single business intelligence vendor that can meet and exceed expectations in all aspects of performance management," said Karen Williams, vice president, product marketing, Cognos. "AUA is a distinguished leader in their field and has driven innovative solutions across the company to improve performance and support a strategic decision-making culture."
