Cognos to Offer Cognos ReportNet on Linux Platform

— Cognos and IBM developing new platform release to help drive business intelligence adoption —

LINUXWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, August 3, 2004— Cognos (NASDAQ: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management, today announced that in conjunction with IBM's Linux on POWER initiative, it will offer Cognos ReportNetT on the Linux platform.

Continuing a long-term relationship, the two companies are working closely together to develop and deliver Cognos ReportNet on Linux as part of a global multi-year agreement to drive business intelligence adoption on IBM Linux-based systems running Cognos solutions.

Cognos ReportNet offers a complete Web-based report and query authoring environment, extensive multi-lingual support, and modem Web Services architecture to meet the needs of today's multi-national, diversified enterprises and to dramatically reduce total cost of ownership. Designed to scale to hundreds of thousands of users, Cognos ReportNet draws upon Cognos query and reporting leadership, delivering a revolution in reporting. Linux provides extremely cost-effective support for that scalability by making it easy to add low-cost, high value performance and computing power to Cognos implementations.

Availability:
Cognos ReportNet on Linux will be available for the IBM eServer systems during the third quarter of 2004.
