Cognos and IBM Strengthen Relationship with Cognos ReportNetT Launch
Cognos' Ottawa location to offer customers access to IBM technology and expertise
BURLINGTON, MA, September 9, 2003Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN) today announced it has strengthened its relationship with IBM (NYSE: IBM) with the launch of Cognos ReportNet. Cognos ReportNet, which offers a complete, pure Web-based enterprise query and reporting environment, is designed to meet the needs of today's multi-national, diversified enterprises. Through the companies' global agreement to market joint offerings, IBM and Cognos offer comprehensive business intelligence offerings that can help customers break down the walls that divide their business information assets, improve corporate performance management (CPM), and drive profitability.
Cognos ReportNet, which is available on IBM's Unix operating system, is fully integrated within the entire breadth of the Cognos Enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) solution, including flexible scorecards, dashboards, powerful OLAP analysis, event detection and alerting, and data integration. The combination of Cognos ReportNet with IBM's DB2 Universal Database will offer joint customers the benefit of flexible, intuitive data access tools integrated with an efficient, automated data management process. For example, at The Bear Stearns Companies Inc. (NYSE: BSC), a leading investment banking and securities trading and brokerage firm, Cognos ReportNet creates a true self-service reporting environment against a number of information systems, including IBM DB2 Universal Database.
"Cognos ReportNet, in conjunction with DB2 Universal Database, can help organizations uncover hidden relationships, spot key trends, and plan more effective strategies using all their business data," said Karen Parrish, vice president, Worldwide Business Intelligence Solutions, IBM. "Our continued support of Cognos' initiatives, including Cognos ReportNet and their planned IBM-supported resource center at Cognos' Ottawa headquarters, allows our customers to derive business value throughout the enterprise, extending the reach of business intelligence solutions into new and emerging markets."
Cognos also announced today that it is deepening joint development initiatives with IBM to ensure optimized performance of Cognos business intelligence solutions, including Cognos ReportNet, on the IBM platform. To that end, Cognos has plans to offer customers visting its Ottawa development location access to on-site assistance from IBM, as well as access to IBM hardware, to ensure optimal performance testing on IBM technology.
"Our long-standing relationship with IBM has helped us reach hundreds of thousands of new users in key markets," said Patrick O'Leary, vice president of strategic alliances, Cognos. "Cognos has developed an enterprise reporting solution that provides unique functionality. With the support of our Partners like IBM, we are excited to offer our joint customers a business intelligence solution to meet the requirements demanded by today's enterprise."
In April, Cognos and IBM announced a multi-year global agreement to market comprehensive business intelligence offerings. Under the terms of the agreement, IBM and Cognos will jointly market and sell integrated solutions to numerous verticals and lines of business such as sales, marketing, and
human resources. The IBM and Cognos offering makes use of IBM DB2* Universal Database, DB2 Warehouse Manager, DB2 OLAP Server, IBM WebSphere* Internet infrastructure software and IBM WebSphere Portal software, and is available on IBM eServer pSeries, and xSeries systems.
Karen Parrish, vice president, Worldwide Business Intelligence Solutions at IBM, will be presenting at Cognos' worldwide launch of Cognos ReportNet. She will discuss how Cognos ReportNet integrates seamlessly with IBM's information management technologies.
