Cognos Increases Worldwide Revenue Leadership for BI Tools

— BI leader expands market share over closest rivals in 2002 according to new IDC report —

BURLINGTON, MA, June 11, 2003—Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN) today announced it has increased its leadership position in the worldwide business intelligence tools market, according to 2002 total worldwide software license and maintenance revenues. These findings are contained in a new report released yesterday from leading industry analyst firm, IDC (Worldwide Business Intelligence Forecast and Analysis, 2003-2007). Cognos expanded its market share over the company's closest competitors in 2002 - growing at a rate of 9.9 percent.

The report states, "Cognos turned in another year of growth (10%) in 2002 and retained its lead as the world's largest BI tools vendor. In fact, Cognos was only one of two leading vendors whose growth rate in 2002 exceeded that of 2001. Even the acquisition of Adaytum to build up its financial and BPM analytic applications business did not derail the company's solid revenue performance in BI tools. Cognos continues to provide and enhance its suite of BI tools that includes the core query, reporting, and OLAP tools."

According to IDC, business intelligence tools include end-user query, reporting and analysis, data mining and packaged data mart/warehouse tools.
