Cognos Continues Scorecarding Leadership with Cognos Enterprise Planning Series

— Scorecarding integration via Cognos Metrics Manager extension gives decision-makers an at-a-glance view of performance against plan —

— Organizations can communicate goal-driven planning metrics to thousands of employees across the enterprise —

ORLANDO, FL, COGNOS TECH FORUM, June 10, 2003—Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and corporate performance management, today announced a scorecarding extension to Cognos Enterprise Planning Series, giving decision-makers an at-a-glance view of performance against plan. Cognos Enterprise Planning streamlines the performance management cycle, bringing together planning, budgeting, forecasting, consolidations, reporting, and financial analytics to eliminate the inconsistencies that constrain effective decision-making.

By integrating the former Adaytum enterprise planning solution into the Cognos solution set, Cognos continues to deliver an integrated solution to its customers and leads the market in providing a comprehensive corporate performance management (CPM) solution. Cognos is first in delivering a suite of integrated products to address the three key elements of the corporate performance management cycle: enterprise planning, enterprise scorecarding, and enterprise business intelligence. Cognos Enterprise Planning Series sets corporate goals and forecasts; Cognos Metrics Manager monitors performance through scorecarding; and Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 provides detailed performance analysis and reporting.

"We continue to hit the key milestones in completing our integration efforts for Cognos Enterprise Planning Series," said Dave Kleinhans, vice president, Enterprise Planning, Cognos. "We're right on pace to achieve both our integration and innovation goals for customers and solidify our leadership in both enterprise planning and business intelligence."

The new extension to Cognos Metrics Manager is the latest in a series of new modules for the Cognos Enterprise Planning Extension Framework, which allows installation of optional planning components. Cognos Metrics Manager, Cognos' industry-leading scorecarding solution, allows planning customers to define those elements of their plan data to be used to populate scorecards, generate metrics and hierarchies and where appropriate, merge plan data with information from other sources. As a result, users can automatically generate a suite of role-based scorecards with seed metrics and target values. These metrics and scorecards provide "first light of day" visibility into plan versus actual performance.

Based on performance or market changes, users can navigate to BI for additional information and/or navigate to their plan to make any required adjustments to target values. As a result, organizations can communicate goal-driven planning metrics to thousands of employees across the enterprise. These metrics can be easily monitored and understood by everyone and employees can see how their decisions and actions affect the overall strategy.

— Key integration already completed —

In addition to the scorecarding extension just announced, key integration efforts completed to-date include:

  • Reporting and Analysis: Fully integrating Cognos Series 7 analysis and reporting as the standard reporting and analytic solution for Adaytum's planning solution, giving customers a superior means to navigate their planning information and report to their extended enterprises.
  • Financial Integration: Integrating Cognos Consolidation's (formerly Cognos Finance) consolidation and financial reporting capabilities with Adaytum's planning capability, giving CFOs the ability to view and compare current actuals and forecasted performance to provide a complete, current view of organizational performance versus plan.
  • Single Sign-On: Providing single sign-on across the complete CPM product set, providing one-stop, secure access to the entire Cognos solution
  • Portal Integration: Integrating Adaytum seamlessly within the Cognos Series 7 portal environment, allowing for user-friendly navigation and information access, personalization, and collaboration.

Availability:
Cognos' scorecarding extension to Cognos Enterprise Planning Series will be generally available in the next 60 to 90 days.
