Cognos Honors Partners and Customers for Achievement in Corporate Performance Management
Partners and customers presented second annual Cognos Partner Achievement Awards
ORLANDO, FL, COGNOS PARTNER SUMMIT, June 10, 2003From OEMs who bundle Cognos technology into their products to consultants who provide services tailored to a customer's unique requirements, Cognos partners help make businesses more competitive - faster. Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN: TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management, presented the second annual Cognos Partner Achievement Awards to three partner-customer teams who are delivering, implementing, and using corporate performance management to demonstrate business value and return on investment.
Parkway Corporation and RCG Information Technology; Markham Stouffville Hospital and Newcomp Solutions; and Kos Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: KOSP) and The Janis Group, received the awards as part of the Cognos Partner Summit, which is being held in conjunction with Cognos Tech Forum, in Orlando, FL.
"We are committed to helping our customers reach the next level of performance. Our solution makes sharing answers and insights across business effortless so users can make informed decisions, turn strategy into action, and optimize corporate performance," said Ted Jandl, Cognos vice president of strategic partners. "We applaud our partners and their customers who have made corporate performance management a strategic factor to enhance revenue, operational efficiency, and competitiveness."
Following is a description of this year's winning partner-customer implementations:
Parkway Corporation and RCG Information Technology:
Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Parkway Corporation is a family-owned business with over 75 years of experience in the parking management and real estate development industries. When the company needed an enterprise-wide business intelligence solution to monitor corporate performance management, it turned to Cognos and partner RCG Information Technology, who provided IT professional services to integrate Cognos into Parkway's application environment.
Parkway Corporation deployed key components of the Cognos BI Series 7, providing employees with advanced reporting and analysis capabilities - bringing a high-tech edge to a traditionally low-tech industry. Dealing with several disparate data sources, Parkway needed a BI solution that would aggregate all collected data, allowing users to gain a 360-degree view of operations across the enterprise. Using Cognos DecisionStream, Parkway was able to gain a comprehensive understanding of revenue growth; profitability; expense management and claims; and trends across individual and collective parking properties. Parkway's customers are also able to access reports and analyze personalized account information at Internet speed using the zero-footprint Cognos extranet solution.
"We are continually challenging ourselves to improve operating efficiency using cost-effective solutions and cutting-edge technology. Cognos BI has given us the ability to really understand our data and has significantly improved our decision-support and operational processes. Data for us is no longer locked away in flat spreadsheets and legacy applications - it's dimensional and can be accessed in a much more user-friendly way," said John Bryer, vice president and chief information officer, Parkway. "Executive managers now have real-time access to business data, allowing them to solve problems quickly and with accurate information, without the need for IT resources."
Markham Stouffville Hospital and Newcomp Solutions:
Markham Stouffville Hospital, a community hospital in the Town of Markham, Ontario, Canada implemented a business intelligence solution from Cognos to drive time and cost savings throughout the organization and empowering Hospital staff to use data effectively to improve patient care and service.
Deploying Cognos enables Markham Stouffville Hospital to easily access, report on and analyze the volumes of patient, administrative, clinical and financial data that is stored in Hospital information systems. For example, the Pharmacy can use Cognos to analyze trends in prescription data. Cognos provides the ability to quickly sort volumes of prescription data into views of information by physician, drug category, clinical service and location within the Hospital. This information can then be used to negotiate better contracts with suppliers or analyze treatment regimes with physicians.
"The healthcare industry tends to be data rich, but information poor," said Scott Briggs, director of information technology, Markham Stouffville Hospital. "Cognos and Newcomp provided us with a secure business intelligence solution that allows us to derive value from our existing technology investments and use our collected data to reduce manual processes, improve data analysis, and ultimately improve patient care services. We are very pleased with the results we have seen to date."
Kos Pharmaceuticals Inc. and The Janis Group:
Kos Pharmaceuticals purchased Cognos' financial analytics and reporting solution and Cognos Metrics Manager. Cognos Metrics Manager enables organizations to actively monitor, analyze, and report at every level of the business and supports balanced scorecarding projects across the enterprise.
"Kos Pharmaceuticals has experienced rapid and substantial growth in the past few years, resulting in the creation of vast amounts of corporate data," said Sharon Leventhal, manager, Midrange Applications at Kos Pharmaceuticals. "By implementing solutions from Cognos and The Janis Group, we are upgrading powerful and flexible reporting and analysis capabilities throughout the company. With Cognos we expect to be able to reduce the time required to input, roll up, and distribute financial reports."
"The Janis Group is focused on delivering solutions that meet the demanding needs of our customers. Through our long-standing partnership with Cognos, JGI has provided a strategic enterprise-wide solution that can now further facilitate Kos' data needs and provide an accelerated return on investment to the enterprise," said Mike Janis, president, The Janis Group.
In addition, Cognos today announced the winners of the Cognos Pinnacle Partner Awards, which honor partners based on understanding of the technology, sales performance, and value-add.
