Cognos Series 7 Achieves
SunToneTM Certification
BURLINGTON, MA, October 23, 2002Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), a world leader in business intelligence (BI), today announced that Cognos Series 7 achieved SunToneSM Certification for Applications. Cognos Series 7, a comprehensive, enterprise-class BI solution, offers mission-critical performance, reliability, and scalability, as well as unique operational event detection and alerting to wireless devices.
The SunTone Certification initiative, led by Sun Microsystems, promotes 7-by-24 service and reliability as a norm for consumer and business Internet-based services. The initiative helps customers identify the best Web-based services and application suppliers, like Cognos, that meet defined standards for providing quality products and services over the Internet. By achieving SunTone Certification, Cognos demonstrates its commitment to providing customers and partners with solutions that deliver high level performance, security, and availability on the SunTM SolarisTM platform.
"By using applications that have received SunTone certification like Cognos Series 7, customers can be confident that the application meets high industry standards," said Stans Kleijnen, vice president of Market Development Engineering and SunTone for Applications, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "SunTone certification verifies that Cognos Series 7 has endured a rigorous assessment and not only meets the SunTone program's rigorous standards today but also is in touch with the latest industry best practices moving forward."
Cognos Series 7 gives organizations the ability to address the business challenges at work in some of the most demanding, high-performance customer sites in the world. Using Sun's SolarisTM 8 Operating Environment and Sun FireTM 4800 server, Cognos proved in performance benchmarking tests to support a minimum of 16,000 named users with a mixed processing response time of less than nine seconds.
"Within our customers' complex global supply chains, access to information surrounding movements and events is often more valuable than the underlying parts or inventory, and Cognos business intelligence delivers," said John Hasenzahl, director, Knowledge Services & Data Management, Schneider Logistics. "Cognos performs extremely well in our environment, providing us with the performance, scalability, and Unix® support that allows us to continue to deliver new business intelligence solutions to manage and grow our customer base." (See Release, 5/23/02: Schneider Logistics uses Cognos Global Extranet to turn Information into Competitive Advantage).
"SunTone Certification demonstrates our ability to meet the rigorous standards set forth by industry-developed standards to provide enterprise customers with top performing, scalable business intelligence solutions to drive corporate performance management," said Patrick O'Leary, vice president of strategic alliances, Cognos.
