Cognos and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Form Alliance
Cognos' Corporate Performance Management framework chosen by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young
BURLINGTON, MA, October 1, 2002Cognos (NASDAQ: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI), today announced a North American alliance with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y), one of the world's largest independent management and IT consulting firms. CGE&Y has chosen Cognos' comprehensive framework for corporate performance management (CPM), including Cognos Analytic Applications. Cognos delivers an enterprise-class BI solution that empowers an organization to layout and execute its CPM strategy - enabling the entire management cycle planning, budgeting, reporting, analysis, and monitoring.
"The business intelligence market has proven itself to be virtually recession-proof; we are confident it will continue to grow over the next several years," said Brian J. Queenin, Vice President and practice leader for Business Intelligence, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young U.S LLC. "Our relationship with Cognos allows us to capitalize on this growth by delivering a wide range of scalable, enterprise-wide solutions to the market. By making mission critical information relevant and actionable within an organization, Cognos' corporate performance management framework helps our clients increase their revenues, reduce costs, be more agile in the marketplace, and maximize and streamline their decision-making processes."
Cognos, the first BI vendor to deliver a comprehensive framework for CPM - the strategic application of BI - has embraced CPM as the future of the BI market, as organizations look to align business strategy with execution across the enterprise. Cognos Analytic Applications are pre-built software solutions that drive and enable better decision-making, improve performance, and reduce bottlenecks. They extend the value of ERP and other operational systems, transforming operational data into consistent, reliable information optimized for reporting and analysis.
Increasingly for industry-leading organizations, CPM represents the natural evolution of their enterprise-scale business intelligence implementations. In a recent report, Gartner stated that "CPM is an important concept, as it represents the strategic deployment of business intelligence (BI) solutions." (Source: Gartner, Inc. "CPM Will Benefit ERP Vendors' BI Strategy", N. Rayner, December 2001.)
"Few organizations can claim to maximize the potential and value of their information assets, creating enterprise-wide corporate performance management. This reflects the inherent difficulty of continuously integrating, managing, and controlling vast amounts of data and information from an increasing number of sources," said Robert Ashe, Cognos President and Chief Operating Officer. "We are impressed with the vision and thought leadership that CGE&Y brings to each joint client engagement and believe our relationship will allow Cognos to be better positioned to help the most prestigious companies in the world integrate people, applications, and data successfully."
