BURLINGTON, MA, Sept. 30, 2002—Cognos (Nasdaq:COGN; TSX:CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI), announced that Network Computing Magazine has awarded Cognos Series 7 its Editor's Choice honor in a comparative review of leading business intelligence solutions. Featured in the Sept. 30, 2002 cover story of Network Computing, the review cites Cognos Series 7's rapid deployability, ease of use and superior reporting capabilities as the key factors in its selection.

"After careful consideration, we chose Cognos Series 7 as our winner. Series 7 beat out the competition, with top scores for its distribution, analysis and automation of data as well as its excellent data-access and application-access security," said Lori MacVittie, technology editor, Network Computing Magazine.

The Network Computing Real-World Labs® team in Green Bay, WI tested Cognos Series 7 against a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database with 2 million customer-relationship management (CRM) records. Each BI product was installed on a Dell Optiplex running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and used SQL Server installation as the data source.

After rigorous testing, the Real-World Labs® team found that Cognos Series 7 offered superior data navigation capabilities as well as the unique ability to create highly personalized reports tailored to specific business user requirements. Tested against solutions from Information Builders, Microstrategy, Microsoft and Brio, the Cognos Series 7 solution scored the highest ranking with a 4.4 out of a possible 5.

Cognos Series 7 continues to win in the marketplace thanks to our dedication to providing solution excellence.
