U.S. Department of Defense division selects Cognos for scalability, ease of use
BURLINGTON, MA, August 29, 2002Navy Training and Management Planning System (NTMPS), owned and operated by the Chief of Naval Education and Training, has implemented a business intelligence solution from Cognos that gives over 3,000 Navy training managers access to mission critical data on manpower, personnel, and training (MPT) issues. Organized by warfare area, NTMPS is a comprehensive information management system that serves as a central repository for MPT information. This data is accessible anytime, anywhere via a secure extranet, enabling Navy personnel to make rapid decisions and take immediate action.

NTMPS is the Enterprise Data Warehouse for the Chief of Naval Education and Training, integrating data from over thirty legacy systems to provide a major decision support system for Navy training managers. It currently supports six individual datamarts reflecting different requirements for warfare communities. NTMPS operates in a thin client-server environment that meets the current needs of most analysts. However, it is also being fielded in a web-based version that will be integrated with the Navy's Task Force Web and Navy Marine Corps Intranet projects.
