Advocate Medical Group Manages Reporting and Analysis Requirements with Cognos Series 7
Cognos and IDX Systems Corporation allow Advocate Medical Group to improve its
bottom line by $20 million
BURLINGTON, MA, July 29, 2002Advocate Medical Group, one of the leading medical groups in the Midwest, wanted to provide its executives, physicians, and managers with robust tools to access critical, enterprise-wide data. Advocate looked to AnalyzerT, an IDX/Cognos solution that allows users to quickly and accurately track physician productivity, managed care trends, payment and rejection experience, market demographics, and scheduling trends. Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN) is the world leader in business intelligence (BI).
Analyzer gives Advocate users the ability to access and manipulate data directly from their desktops spending less time requesting and compiling data and more time analyzing the data by extracting information from the core IDX financial, managed care, and scheduling applications. Analyzer provides the ability to look at information from multiple viewpoints by utilizing components of Cognos Series 7 to produce flexible and interactive reporting and analysis. Since deploying Analyzer, Advocate has improved its bottom line by nearly $20 million.
"Today, Advocate focuses on the use of information to improve the quality of healthcare delivery and business performance," said Stephen Krug, Director of Information Systems, Advocate Medical Group. "Cognos and IDX provide our executives and physicians the information needed to make fast, informed decisions ultimately driving business performance improvements and customer success. IDX and Cognos continue to support our efforts to improve patient care, reduce clinical resource consumption, enhance the patient experience, and improve customer satisfaction."
Analyzer provides companies like Advocate with a powerful reporting and analysis solution, enabling them to dramatically reduce report creation times, derive critical customer insights, and measure and monitor key performance indicators. Advocate users have access to a variety of standard, interactive reports that address business questions related to billing and accounts receivable, utilization of services, physician productivity, managed care trends, payment and rejection experience, market demographics, and scheduling trends. For example, Advocate users can produce a report on physician billing in a particular month versus months prior. If the report indicates that a particular physician's billing is lower than usual, the physician can further analyze factors to find the cause.
"Our strategic focus remains to provide leading business intelligence solutions to the healthcare industry, addressing our clients' most demanding business needs," said Thomas W. Butts, President/General Manager of IDX's Enterprise Solutions Division. "Through this partnership with Cognos, IDX has provided an end-to-end, enterprise-wide solution that encompasses all of Advocate's data needs providing an accelerated return on investment to the enterprise."
"It is critical for medical centers to have comprehensive information readily available to meet reporting requirements and to pinpoint areas for quality and business improvement," said Dave Laverty, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing, Cognos.
