Cognos® Announces Board and Management Changes
OTTAWA, ON, June 20, 2002Cognos (Nasdaq:COGN; TSE:CSN) today announced that John Rando will be appointed to the company's board of directors, effective July 30, 2002. Mr. Rando is a 25-year technology veteran who has held senior positions at several leading firms including Compaq Computer Corp. and Digital Equipment Corp. He fills one of the vacancies created by the departures of Candy Obourn and Doug Erwin, who will not be standing for re-election at the company's annual shareholders meeting July 2. Cognos also announced that Alan Rottenberg, senior vice president, strategy, will be leaving the company to pursue other interests, effective July 30.
John Rando is a venture investor, who previously served as senior vice president and group general manager, Compaq Services, at Compaq Computer Corp. In that position, Mr. Rando led an organization of 25,000 people with revenues of more than $7 billion. Earlier, Mr. Rando held a variety of sales and services positions with Digital Equipment Corporation. Mr. Rando also currently serves on the boards of Yankee Energy Systems and ePresence Inc., and is chairman of @stake Inc., Ecora Software and Storability Inc.

Alan Rottenberg leaves Cognos after a 13-year career with the company in which he helped cultivate the success of the company's BI tools and Analytic Applications businesses. In 1991, Mr. Rottenberg was appointed vice president of the then-new Business Intelligence unit, and had responsibility for worldwide product development and marketing in what was to become the foundation for the company's success today. Later, Mr. Rottenberg served as senior vice president, analytic applications, and most recently as senior vice president, strategy.
