Cognos® Sales Win: DHL Worldwide Express Delivers Increased Value with Cognos Reporting and Analysis Solution
- Global shipping company improves data management capabilities for Nordic division -
BURLINGTON, MA, July 18, 2001Cognos® (NASDAQ:COGN; TSE: CSN), the leading provider of business intelligence solutions, today announced that DHL Worldwide Express, the market leader of the global air and ground express industry, has selected Cognos to provide its Nordic region with a comprehensive, Web-based business intelligence solution.
Cognos Impromptu Web Reports® and PowerPlay Web® will be rolled out to 300 users at DHL and will be used to analyze and report on key figures, earnings per item, number of transactions per day, and loyalty reports. End users at DHL, including the Board of Directors, analysts, sales, and management will utilize this critical business data to optimize resources and react more quickly to emerging trends.
The Cognos solution will also allow DHL to deliver an increased level of customer service to clients in the Nordic region. Using Cognos' Web-based multidimensional analysis and reporting capabilities, DHL will be able to deliver more detailed shipping reports to their customers, as well as track shipments en route more effectively. Account information will soon be available to customers via DHL's extranet.
"At DHL Nordic, we register more than 46,000 transactions every day and the sheer quantity of data makes it essential for us to know exactly where follow-ups are needed," said Carsten Bjaaland, IT Director at DHL Nordic. "By way of the Web, Cognos will provide users with an up-to-the-minute view of all transactions and the ability to analyze and report on this data from anywhere, anytime. This solution allows us to simulate different business scenarios, allowing us to anticipate demand and better service our customers."
In addition, DHL Nordic uses Cognos DecisionStream to extract logistical data from a central database containing details of transactions involving over 250,000 customers worldwide. Previously, DHL Nordic employed a number of different methods to obtain this data, resulting in inconsistencies and inaccuracies in reports. DHL Nordic expects the deployment of the Cognos solution to radically transform business processes by creating a unified, international data infrastructure and to help achieve the consistency needed for fast, effective decision-making.
"The DHL solution is a good example of Cognos' end-to-end concept where we control the whole process from data extraction to developing a data warehouse and presenting the results via a Web portal," said Rein Hoogland, Area Vice President, Northern Europe, Cognos. "Cognos' rapid implementation process will enable DHL to see results from the Cognos solution almost immediately."
