Cognos® Sales Win: United Guaranty Selects Cognos Business Intelligence Solution
-- Customers Can View Account Data With Cognos-Powered Solution --
BURLINGTON, Mass., June 27, 2000Demonstrating its
ongoing success in delivering technology solutions critical to e-business,
Cognos® (Nasdaq:COGN; TSE:CSN) today announced that United Guaranty
Corporation, parent company of United Guaranty Residential Insurance
Company - a national mortgage guaranty insurer - has selected Cognos
business intelligence (BI) solution for e-business to power its e-business
Gateway. Cognos is the worlds largest and most successful business
intelligence company.
The Cognos-enabled business-to-business Gateway will allow United
Guarantys mortgage lending customers to access and analyze timely,
in-depth account information via a secure Internet connection by simply
using a Web browser. Equipped with better information, lenders can make
fast, high-quality decisions concerning their mortgage portfolios to
improve profits, gauge loan defaults, and improve service to their
customers. United Guaranty anticipates deploying the Cognos solution by
Summer 2000.
"United Guaranty has embraced the Internet, and Cognos Web-based
enterprise business intelligence solution helps differentiate us from the
competition," said Tripp Waddell, senior vice president and chief
information officer. "The Cognos-enabled system will allow United Guaranty
to establish a safe and secure environment to share information with our
customers. We believe that access to this information can enable lenders to
make informed decisions, ultimately improving portfolio performance."
United Guarantys commercial customers can use Cognos technology
to access information residing in United Guarantys data warehouse
via the e-Business Gateway. End users within United Guarantys
commercial customers can perform multi-dimensional analysis of the
information, "drilling down" to details below the surface figures to
uncover key business drivers. They can then create and distribute reports
to other employees on their findings with no assistance from technical
personnel.
For example, managers access financial statements related to their
captive reinsurance activities and analyze individual loan details by
state, product, sales person, finance rate and premium. Lenders also may
retrieve information on total insurance claims paid out over a specified
time with the Cognos BI solution to analyze default characteristics of
their portfolio.
"Cognos business intelligence solution is a true cornerstone for
any e-business initiative," said Joanne K. Masingill, Cognos senior
vice president of marketing. "United Guaranty is an excellent testament to
how a traditional business can evolve into an e-Business, using the Cognos
solution to share information with business partners and customers in a
true e-Business context. United Guaranty will integrate the Cognos product
into all of its e-Business applications to enable customers to analyze and
interpret portfolio data."
